Frequently Asked Questions
How does the free trial work?
Start your subscription with a 14-day free trial directly through the App Store. All features are unlocked immediately, and you can cancel anytime. After the trial, your plan continues automatically. Choose Monthly (€5.99), Annual (€39.99, save 44%), or Lifetime (one-time €49.99).
Is my data uploaded to the cloud?
No. All your data stays on your device. There are no servers that store your personal data. Voice notes are also excluded from iCloud backup by default. You can opt in, and with Apple's Advanced Data Protection, they're end-to-end encrypted. Privacy-First is technically enforced at DopaLoop, not just promised.
What happens if I miss a day?
DopaLoop uses "Forgiving Streaks": one missed day doesn't break your streak. You won't see streak-loss warnings.
What does the intensity scale (0-5) mean?
Instead of just tracking 'done' or 'not done', you can indicate how intensely you performed a habit. A short meditation is still a success, even if it wasn't as long as planned. Every step counts.
Can I sync my data between devices?
There's no automatic sync yet, but you can transfer your data manually: Use the Export function in Settings to save your data as a JSON file, then import it on your other device. The export also works as a backup. All data stays local on your device - privacy first.
Why 'Goals-First'?
DopaLoop organizes everything around your goals. Habits are tools to reach those goals, not standalone streak counters. The "why" behind a habit keeps motivation going longer than numbers alone.
What is ADHD/RSD and why is the app optimized for it?
ADHD affects many adults, including myself. RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria) describes heightened emotional sensitivity to perceived rejection. Many habit trackers use language that can trigger negative feelings ('You failed', 'Your streak is broken'). DopaLoop uses supportive, non-judgmental language instead. This design helps everyone, not just people with ADHD.
Are there ads in the app?
No. DopaLoop is ad-free. No pop-ups, no banners.
Which devices are supported?
DopaLoop is available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The iOS app requires iOS 18 or later, the Watch app requires watchOS 11 or later.
How does Voice Journaling work?
Speak your thoughts instead of typing. Speech recognition runs entirely on your iPhone, no audio data is sent to the cloud. Press the button, speak, done.
How does HealthKit Auto-Tracking work?
Connect your habits to Apple Health. Sleep, steps, and workouts are tracked automatically, read directly from your device. Forgot to log? HealthKit already tracked it for you.
I know what I should do, but I just can't start. Does the app help with that?
Yes, that's exactly what DopaLoop is built for. This is called Executive Dysfunction and is very common with ADHD. The 6-level intensity system helps: even 2 minutes count as success. That lowers the barrier to getting started. And because every habit is connected to a goal, you always know why you're doing it.
What are 'Forgiving Streaks'?
Your streak stays active as long as you checked yesterday or today. No pressure to check at the exact same time every day. Even if your streak breaks, all your progress remains visible.
What happens if I don't use the app for 2 weeks?
Your previous progress is still there. Just continue where you left off, no restart, no lost data.
How many habits should I track at the same time?
Start with one goal and 1-3 habits. Once these become routine, you can expand. Less is more, especially with ADHD.
Why do I lose interest in other apps after 2 months?
The ADHD brain constantly seeks novelty and dopamine. Pure streak counters get boring quickly. DopaLoop connects your habits to goals. That gives tracking a purpose beyond numbers.
How can I support the app?
A positive review on the App Store helps me a lot! If you have feedback or suggestions for improvement, feel free to send me an email.
Is DopaLoop available for Android?
Currently, DopaLoop is only available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This isn't a statement against Android users. It's a deliberate choice: as a solo developer, I can only do one platform really well. DopaLoop uses deeply integrated Apple technologies like HealthKit, Siri Shortcuts, Apple Watch sync, and on-device speech recognition for Voice Journaling. An Android version would essentially be a completely new app. If DopaLoop grows enough, Android is the logical next step. But I'd rather have one really good iOS app than two mediocre ones.
What happens if the app is discontinued?
Great question, and one more apps should be asking. Because DopaLoop runs completely locally on your device (no servers, no cloud dependencies), the app would continue to work even if no more updates were released tomorrow. Your data belongs to you and stays on your device. With the export feature, you can save your data as JSON at any time. Long-term, I plan to release the source code in the event of discontinuation, so the community could continue the app. But don't worry: DopaLoop is actively being developed.
Is DopaLoop DiGA-certified? Can I use it for therapy?
No, DopaLoop is not a certified DiGA (Digital Health Application) and is not a medical device. DiGA certification requires clinical studies, CE marking, and an extensive approval process with Germany's BfArM. That's not realistic for a solo project right now. DopaLoop is a wellness and self-organization tool designed specifically for people with ADHD. It can meaningfully complement therapy (e.g., to implement habits from behavioral therapy in daily life), but it does not replace professional treatment. If you need therapeutic support, please talk to your doctor or therapist.
Is there a roadmap? How is DopaLoop being developed?
DopaLoop is actively being developed, but without a fixed, public roadmap with deadlines. As a solo project, I want to be honest: promising timelines I can't keep would be frustrating for everyone. The biggest update so far is already live: The "Evidence-Based Enhancement" milestone has transformed DopaLoop from a pure habit tracker into a true companion for people with ADHD. The new features include: • Validated ADHD Self-Check (ASRS-v1.1): a scientifically recognized screener with progress tracking • Mood timeline: see connections between your habits and your well-being • Sleep correlation: via HealthKit, see how your sleep affects your habit completion • Therapist export: a PDF report you can bring directly to your doctor's appointment Next up: psychoeducational content: evidence-based ADHD knowledge based on current clinical guidelines, right in the app. Community feedback directly influences prioritization. If you have ideas or wishes, feel free to reach out. Every message is read.
