Why I kept dropping habit trackers
Not because they were bad. Because they create a second task on top of the one you already can't get to.
Recording is a task of its own
You do the thing. Then you're supposed to write down that you did it. With eight habits that's eight more actions, every evening, on top.
Reminders get swiped away eventually
Somebody in r/ADHD put it as "dismissing reminders on autopilot after a while", with hundreds underneath saying they know it too. A system built on reminders loses to habituation.
If you have to remember it, the system already failed
"If I have to remember it then the system fails." That was the top comment under the same post, and it describes fairly precisely why my own attempts fell over. A tool that wants manual entry every day ends up in a folder on page three.
What changed
Four ways in. Three of them without opening the app. None of them asks you to remember.
Speak instead of tapping
One sentence about your day. DopaLoop reads which habits you meant, shows you its proposal, and you confirm with a tap. Got it wrong? Tap the chip and it's out.
Reply without opening the app
You answer the evening notification straight from the notification. iOS hands you the keyboard, which means dictation too. No detour via the home screen.
Siri asks, you answer
"Day check-in in DopaLoop." Siri asks how your day went, you say a sentence. Nothing is written until you have seen the proposal.
A sticker on the thing itself
An NFC sticker on the pill box, a QR code by the front door. Tapping it records the check-in. The anchor reminds you because it sits where the habit already happens.
What this can't do
Sleep, steps and workouts come from Apple Health on their own, if you allow it. That covers physical habits. It does not cover what most of us actually struggle with: opening the letter, starting the task, making the call. I don't know a shortcut for that, and I wouldn't sell you one.
The bad day costs exactly what the good one does
"Nothing today" is a check-in, not a failure. Same view, same labels, one tap. No struck-through habits, no "0 of 5", no error colour. If the sad answer cost more than the happy one, you would stop giving it, and then the days you could actually learn from are the ones missing.
Your voice stays with you
If you record in the app, speech becomes text on your device. No recording is uploaded, nobody analyses how your day went. Through Siri, Apple does the recognition and Apple's rules apply; your habits and entries stay here either way. If you're not comfortable with Apple doing that, turn off Siri Shortcuts in Settings. You can still speak inside the app.
